Search Engines hit the No1 spot for business search

The yellow pages is no longer the first port of call for local business search.

The yellow pages is no longer the first port of call when it comes to searching local businesses. For the first time search engines have hit the number one spot for business search. This is only likely to increase in numbers in the years to come.

Data from comScore and TMP Directional Marketing shows search engines now share the top 31% of all business search. The yellow pages is a close second with internet yellow pages websites and local search directories coming 3rd and 4th. Last year's numbers had Print Yellow Pages at 33% and search engines at 30%.

1. Search Engines (31%)

2. Print Yellow Pages or White Pages (30%)

3. Internet Yellow Pages Sites (19%)

4. Local Search Sites (11%)

Given the percentages searching local directories it should be an absolute requirement to ensure your website is included within these directories (make sure you include your website in the relevant category).
